The Founders of Scouting

The Troop 28 History

Boy Scout Troop 28 was created from Boy Scout Troop 238 of Galt California.  Troop 238 had over 60 Boy Scouts and was a very large troop, and had an abundance of qualified adult leaders.  Many of the leaders and parents of Troop 238 saw that the scouting movement in Galt was growing and the need for another troop would be healthy for the Boy Scout program in the area.

On September 3, 2003 the Knights of Columbus Council #9836 from St. Christopher's Parish in Galt California agreed to sponsor a new Boy Scout Troop and Venture Crew to accompany their existing sponsorship of Cub Scout Pack 28.  The charter leadership of Troop 28 is Scoutmaster Mr. O'Hara, the Committee Chairperson Mrs. Newman, the Assistant Scoutmasters were Mr. Sweatt, Mr. Martin, Mr. Newman and Mr. Scally, Troop Treasurer Mrs. Schmidt and Ms. Dewitt was our Secretary.

Our first Senior Patrol was Eagle Scout Aaron Newman and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader was Ryan Foster, who led four patrols: The Venture Patrol, The Stags, The Scorpions and the Black Dragons.  With qualified trained leaders and experienced youth leaders the troop was off to a great start.  Our first Eagle Scout was Josh O'Hara who obtained the rank of Eagle on October 19, 2004.

On February 26, 2007 Scoutmaster Mr. O'Hara retired his duties of the Troop to Scoutmaster's Mr. Martin
Mr. Newman and Mr. McLay in the interim. Thank you for your dedication to the Boy Scouts!

On February 28, 2008 (after 1 long year) Mr. O'Hara resumed the Troop 28 Scoutmaster position to date, as it was driving him crazy not to go camping, hiking, swimming, and working with the boys of the troop to help them become fine young men.
